Xaat Disi

Xaat Disi: The Salmon Run Game is an original game developed to facilitate research on level generation. While playing, the player is presented with dynamically generated terrain and animals as he or she controls salmon swimming upstream. The project explores measuring player satisfaction and level generation. For the first stage of the study, players have been asked about their experience while playing a few levels of the game. By correlating those responses with data collected during gameplay, we hope to establish a means of determining player satisfaction without burdening the player with manually reporting anything. In the second part of the study, we will use the function learned in the first part of the study to evaluate versions of the game with different level generators. Then, using a genetic algorithm, we will improve the level generation based on player satisfaction.
