Overview

MicroVentures is a rogue-like game for mobile devices that can be played in small bursts. Each play session is connected by a story that forms depending on what the player does. Levels in the game are different every time and are filled with interesting enemies and items. The player must explore the level, use their items wisely, and complete various objectives.

A major feature of MicroVentures is its procedurally generated stories. The story for the next level is chosen based on the current state of the world so the overall storyline is based on the player’s actions in previous levels. The levels themselves are also procedurally generated so each level is a new experience. The levels use different generation algorithms based on the location of the level so a forest will look much different than a dungeon. MicroVentures was developed using the Marmalade SDK which allows for a single program to be deployed to multiple mobile platforms without having to rewrite any code.
