Media Systems Workshop: Day 3

The final day of the Media Systems Workshop brought many new ideas to the table, and hopefully provided the catalyst for some genuine collaborations and advancement in the field. Speakers included Janet Kolodner, Donald Brinkman, and Pamela Jennings.

We're sad the workshop is over, but we couldn't be more happy with the outcome. Thanks to all who helped make this happen, especially to our excellent funders who saw the value in such a meeting, and the participants for their enthusiasm and commitment to making the convening a fruitful one. And now to look forward to the outcomes!

Some highlights from Twitter:

Chaim Gingold has made an amazing simulation-rich earth science textbook at UCSC. This could change A LOT about science ed.

Woke up this morning and ordered all of Wendy Chun's books -- anticipating major power-up.

: we need not just (or even) big data but deep data: culturally rich + relevant

Pamela Jennings at : "Data becomes the object of introspection, speculation, and dynamic learning"

Very sad that I'm missing  at ; so far the feed has looked fantastic.

White Paper by Fox Harrell that Pamela Jennings cited  - How STEM and arts/hums can get back together.

NEA arts research RFP - note sept 12 webinar

The funding agencies can't flock together around arts+computing+humanities without the community being more coherent.

Janet Murray: I don't want to see the group of luminaries assembled here fall into the humanist despair of self-pity.

May what I do be good for the whole.
